A New Microwave

Our microwaves last five or six years, which isn't great, considering the cost. Our current Farberware doesn't want to stop running, so it's time for a new one. The choices are overwhelming, and most companies offer too many models, so it's hard to find a review of one that's actually available. I'll read reviews of a recommended model, but that model is no longer available. Between the testing and the publishing, the manufacturer changed models. Is a $500 KitchenAid better than a $70 Comfee? I want one with 1000W, 1.1 Cu ft, 12" turntable. Breville seems to be the best brand, but it's not easy to find at reasonable prices.

Well, I've decided that I can't buy a microwave. They're either not reliable, don't heat well, or are too expensive. I'll just have to continue eating ice cream.

As a side note, most microwaves are made in a single factory in China. "The Midea Group has manufactured the majority of countertop microwave ovens sold in the United States since 2020."

I don't know. I bought a number of microwave ovens over the years but I don't have any that was broken. My first one was made by Litton and I still like that one. I gave it to my brother I think. When I moved I didn't bring the microwave with me. The house I live in now was built in 2003 and the microwave is the same age.
I have good luck with machinery except cars. I can never keep my car running well for very long. Other stuff I have no problem. I still have the Marrelli fan my father bought when I was born and it's still working.

Wow.
When we moved, we got rid of our 25 year old Toshiba microwave.
It was a boat anchor from about 1980-81.

Our recent GE knows when veggies are done, there's a fresh or frozen choice for cooking them.
'Cept lima beans in mixed veggies, they kinda get over-done.

Our new house in 1995 came with a GE over the stove microwave with no turntable. We sold the house in 2022 and it was working just fine at 27 years old.

I now have three broken microwaves that I have to bring to a special place to dispose of. I'll have to check and see when they are open.

If you set aside, oh, say 7% of your ice cream budget each week, could you save up enough for that nice microwave you'd really like, in time for 4th of July?
😊 😁
Can you kick that much ice cream habit for a few weeks?
😲 🤔

My microwaves have all lasted at least 20 years each. The current one is 24 years old. I've noticed that you seem to have an extraordinarily high failure rate with electronic equipment. Maybe it's your buying choices.

There's no real NEED for a microwave. What did you do before you had one? Do that from now on.

Need? probably not. We took more time on the stove/in the oven.
Time and pot saver- convenience
Not using the stove oven to heat things, time and $

Stouffer's lunches - 5 minutes in the microwave or 45 minutes in the oven.

Yup, definitely one's personal choice.
I choose to go with the microwave.
