Momma owl and her fledglings

These images of Great Horned Owls were captured in Green Valley, AZ last night. My wife and I have never had the opportunity to be this close to owls. It was very cool. I had to look up the proper name for the babies since they have left their nest in a nearby Joshua Tree. The locals that watch them closely say the fledglings will leave their mother around the end of May.

"Like other baby owls, baby Great Horned owls are called owlets. They’re also more generally known as chicks. Like other baby birds, at birth, after hatching, Great Horned owls are called hatchlings. While they remain in the nest, they’re called nestlings, and when leaving the nest, they’re called fledglings."
